Do you want to be able to remotely access a router, camera, machine, PLC, alarm system, or other IoT device via the mobile network? With an IoT SIM card with a fixed public IPv4 address, every device receives its own permanent, publicly accessible IP address.
Unlike a standard mobile SIM card, where the IP address often changes dynamically and traffic is usually behind Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT), the IPv4 address remains the same with this solution. As a result, your device is directly accessible via the internet at a known IP address, even after a restart, a temporary network interruption, or moving the SIM card to other compatible hardware. A fixed public IPv4 solution is ideal for professional remote access, remote management, and applications where IP whitelisting is required.
When do you choose fixed public IPv4?
A fixed public IPv4 address makes it possible to establish a connection directly to your mobile router, modem, or IoT device from an authorized internet connection. You do not need to determine the current IP address of a device every time and are not dependent on an outgoing cloud connection or dynamic DNS solution.

A practical example: a service technician can securely log in to a Teltonika or Peplink router at a remote location via the fixed IP address. Subsequently, he or she can access the connected PLC, camera, or local network equipment without anyone needing to be present on site.
KPN 5G met vast IP Vodafone LTE-back-up

Backup SIM card with public IPv4 address
For applications that need to be accessible from the internet, a standard mobile data SIM card is not always sufficient. Many mobile connections use CGNAT. As a result, incoming traffic from the internet usually cannot be forwarded directly to your router, camera, PLC, or other equipment.
With a backup SIM card with a public IPv4 address, you can make equipment remotely accessible. This is particularly relevant for management, monitoring, remote service, VPN connections, cameras, and applications where inbound connections are necessary.
A public IPv4 address can be used for, among other things:
- Remote management of 4G and 5G routers
- Access to cameras, recorders, and alarm systems
- VPN servers or external VPN access

A public or fixed IP is not necessary in every situation. If your router or device works exclusively with outgoing cloud, VPN, or MQTT connections, a standard data SIM card is often sufficient. For applications involving remote access or incoming connections, we recommend assessing in advance whether public IPv4, a private APN, or a VPN solution is the best choice. A public fixed IP option can enable remote access to a router and connected IoT devices.
